Individualized Program Plans
The Individualized Program Plan is designed to act as the individual student’s program while in the school setting. The IPP
can be as simple as specific provisions made in the area of a single subject to a wholesale program change designed for a
student needing a vaster array of changes. The Alberta Learning general curriculum is designed for children of average ability
who are developmentally appropriate for their current grade placement. As teachers we understand that many of the children
in our classrooms do not meet this criterion and are not able to successfully complete the Alberta Education curriculum
requirements without significant provisions allowed. The IPP is a design for these provisions so is therefore a very important
document.
